Our Story

Inspired by the rugged coastlines and deep forests of Dunedin, New Zealand.

It started as a journey of discovery. When our founder visited New Zealand, he didn't just find a vacation destination—he found a second home. Captivated by the pristine beauty of the South Island and the Kiwi culture of hospitality, he felt a deep connection that he couldn't shake. He knew he had to bring that same sense of wonder, warmth, and wild beauty back to San Diego.

Dunedin Restaurant was born from this desire to reconnect with the "why" of food. In modern cities, we often lose touch with the origins of our ingredients. We wanted to bring the wild, pure spirit of New Zealand's South Island to the city.

Our commitment begins with 100% grass-fed beef and extends to our scratch-made kitchen. We render our own tallow, churn our own butter, and press our own oils. We believe that fat is flavor, and when it comes from healthy, sustainable sources, it nourishes both body and soul.

"Kai is the language of love."
